A big THANK YOU to Sheriff Steve Cronic for taking the lead in illegal immigration in Hall County. Although the Feds fought as hard as they could, Sheriff Cronic and his Department passed the test to deport illegals without having to wait for the INS’ blessing. The INS has never wanted to deport anyone from the US. Soon the word will be out that Hall County is not the county of choice for illegals. Watch costs and crime go down in proportion to the reduction in the illegal population. Maybe Sheriff Cronic can find a way to deport the illegal immigration attorneys next if they don’t have their fishing licenses?
Our favorite “open border radicals” are getting more free advertising in The Times today. I wish I could get as much free advertising for my law practice as they get between The Times and WDUN. Attorneys who make their living off illegal immigration are in the catbird seat here. The illegal immigration issue is important to Hall County. It is controversial so it gets in the press. Only 6 or so people (who are here legally) support illegal immigration, and they are all lawyers that make a living off illegal immigrants. They are all Democrats. And they write into the paper and appear on the radio attempting to support crazy positions like everyone should be allowed a free ride to Gainesville. Our radical illegal immigration lawyers complain about “their” government “persecuting” “law abiding citizens.” What? Not citizens. Not law abiding. Not “their” government. Last I checked, law enforcement has a sworn obligation to arrest criminals. There is no such thing as bad publicity when you are an illegal immigration lawyer.

Congratulations to Brad Morris on his reappointment on May 2, 2008. His term will now expire in 2012. I know I probably stand alone as a Republican in support of Brad Morris. However, I know that Brad supports and defends the Constitution to the best of his ability every day. He, and his staff, might be a pain in the butt for prosecutors (and I have prosecuted cases against Brad so I know this first hand), but that is not the litmus test. The test is whether the legal process is fair for the accused. As a former prosecutor and appellate attorney, trust me when I say that it is better to fight the good fight to the fullest in the trial court than it is to have a defect that has to be fixed later. Brad and his staff make sure that every possible defense is raised at the earliest possible moment so that there is little or no chance for a successful appeal later.
As to the committee that reappointed Brad, however, none of them are members of the Hall County Republican Party. Rep. James Mills recommended yours truly to fill a vacant position to be appointed by the Superior Court Judges, which would have made one Republican on the committee. The Superior Court Judges did not select me or any other Republican.
