If you read the paper you probably did not know that James Mills had Family Campaign Rally last Saturday from 5 to 7 PM at the Ag Center. The media goes on and on this morning about the measly 250 Democrats that showed up for the Democrat Party rally at the Georgia Mountains Center. That number included the candidates (all that there are in North Georgia.) I drove by and saw about 12 yard signs. There was still parking on the square and all around the Georgia Mountains Center. Wow—not.
James had over 600 people show up at the Ag Center for his event. Those people included Lt. Governor Cagle, Congressman Deal, Sheriff Cronic, Commissioners Banks and Powell, and Flowery Branch Councilman Chris Fetterman just to name a few. There was a Siberian Tiger, a band, and Milton Robson with his Bentley and some antique cars (our own Josh Morris brought his ‘69(?) Mustang). And that is what I personally saw before I had to go. Where was the press? Lots of political speeches by elected officials, but no reporters. They were probably all at home resting up for the little “big” rally the next day.
We had a good turnout at the 8-9-08 Conservative Forum where Rep. Doug Collins was the featured speaker. Doug is heading to Iraq as an Air Force Chaplin. Our prayers go out to him for taking The Lord to that country and coming back home safe. Doug gave a rousing talk about duty, honor, and County (my words not his). Doug also expressed the need for our party to constantly change to get better and move forward.
Sen. Hawkins, Rep. Mills, and Rep. Rogers all discussed legislative issues. Carl reported that Diversion Center will be converted to a “day reporting” facility not closed as previously reported. James talked aoubt the need for poof of citizenship to register to vote. Currently no birth certificate is required to register. No telling how many fraudulent voters we have recently registered in Georgia. You have to show you birth certificate to play soccer with other kids–I don’t think showing the certificate to vote is such a big deal (unless you are a fraud of course). James also talked about the need to collect money from deadbeat homeowners who seem to have been able to keep $8M.

Dwight Wood, embattled Hall County Clerk who threw in the towel after revelations that he personally kept over $85,000 in passport fees, has reviewed candidate Jennifer Gibbs’ campaign material (Gibbs’ Flyer) and felt compelled to respond (Dwight Wood’s Press Release). With a dismal 14% turnout for the primary, there is no way to tell what the effect, if any, Dwight’s last-minute defense will have.

Remember from my earlier blog entry (and at the forum if you were there), there ARE some things at the clerk’s office that need to be changed, and both remaining candidates have pledged to make those changes. For example, right now there is NEVER a clerk in the courtroom when court is in session unless they are bringing in a jury or taking a verdict. In criminal cases, the court administrator had to pay a former clerk to prepare sentences because there was no clerk to do so. Even after the process was automated.
Don’t forget to vote! You can vote today if you want to. But you can’t vote after next Tuesday at 7PM so don’t wait!
