The following is the press release from Chairman Andrew Turnage:

Andrew Turnage, Chairman of the 9th District Republican Party, welcomed a capacity crowd to the Gainesville Civic Center on Thursday night. The occasion was a chance to see the 9th District Congressional candidates face off in a debate ahead of the July 31st primary.

The debate opened up with candidates asking each other questions regarding their stance on issues and even encompassed past voting records and public statements made by the candidates. Jim Galloway from the AJC and John Clark from Georgia News Network, took over the questioning of candidates Martha Zoller, Doug Collins and Roger Fitzpatrick. The questions addressed national security, Healthcare, and the federal budget among many other issues that the new Congressman or Congresswoman will address once elected this November, but first they need to win the July 31 primary.

The Hall County Republican Party along with the 9th District Republican Party conducted a straw poll that might shed some light on where the crowd in attendance might weigh in on that race. The straw poll asked where the debate attendees stood on the non- binding resolutions put forth by the Republican party after their convention this May. At the convention some two thousand Republicans and Conservatives approved all of the questions by a vast majority. The straw poll included the hotly debated T-Splost referendum as well. The results of that poll are as follows.

For 9th Congressional District of Georgia

Doug Collins                       65 votes 39%

Roger D. Fitzpatrick         45 votes  27%

Martha Zoller                     53 votes  32%

Undecided                          5 votes  2%
